Using the Codex without an account

You do not need an account to use the reference guide or search. During beta, we collect limited information about submitted searches so we can understand what players look for and improve weak or missing results. This may include the search term, whether and how many results were found, the top result when there is one, approximate country, and the time of the search.

We do not intentionally attach these anonymous search records to names, email addresses, Codex account IDs, account sessions, advertising IDs, or browser fingerprints. We do not use them to build individual player histories or profiles.

Account data

If you create an account, we store the minimum information needed to sign you in and save your Codex data, including your display name, email address, and linked sign-in methods. We also store the Codex entries you deliberately save as Favorites. When you are signed in, the Codex may save your last 50 submitted searches as private Recent Searches and move a repeated search to the top instead of keeping duplicate copies. Anonymous searches made before sign-in are not added later.

Private Daily Task data is also stored with your account when you use it: current completion and hidden state, custom task text and optional Codex links, your hide-confirmation preference, the three optional Favorite Things you record for a character during the current DDV day, and any Character Home or Companion Role you choose to record. Favorite Things store only canonical Codex item links and reset with the next DDV day; the Codex does not predict them. Character Home and Role are private player-entered values and do not reset daily. Favorites, Recent Searches, and Daily Tasks remain private account data. Your account data remains separate from anonymous Search Analytics; it is not added to those analytics or made available to other players.

The Moonlit Codex does not create or store a separate password for you. Google, Discord, or email sign-in is used instead.

Cookies and sign-in

If you sign in, a secure session cookie keeps your account working in your browser. It is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking. Sessions expire after no more than seven days, after which you must sign in again.

Search terms, filters, sorting choices, and open item details may be kept in the page URL and temporary browser state so navigation works as expected. Those URLs can appear in your browser history and are sent to the site when you load them.

Third-party sign-in and email

If you choose Google or Discord, that service processes its part of the sign-in under its own privacy practices. The Codex requests only the basic identity and email information needed to sign you in.

If you request an email sign-in link, Resend processes the email address and message information needed to deliver it. Open and click tracking are disabled for Codex authentication messages. Sign-in email is not used for marketing or connected to anonymous search analytics.

Hosting and security

Like other hosted websites, the services that deliver and protect The Moonlit Codex may process technical request information such as an IP address, browser or device information, requested URL, and request timing. This normal hosting and security processing is separate from the limited beta search analytics described above.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from the Account page. For security, you may be required to sign in again before deletion. Deleting your account removes the account data currently associated with it, including Favorites, private Recent Searches, Daily Task state, custom tasks, character Favorite Things, Character Home and Companion Role values, and task preferences. Anonymous search analytics cannot be matched to your account and are not part of an account profile.

Data sale

The Moonlit Codex does not sell user data. We do not use your account or anonymous searches for advertising profiles or cross-site tracking.
